Location

The School in Salerno

The 3rd GIG-ARTS School on Digital Governance will take place in the city centre of Salerno, Italy, from 22–26 February 2027.

Salerno is located approximately 60 km from Naples and is connected to the wider region by rail and road. The central railway station and other main transport connections are located within the city centre.

The School will take place in central Salerno. Further information about the exact venue and practical arrangements for participants will be published soon.

Before you travel

The information below is intended to assist participants with planning their travel, accommodation and participation.

Accommodation

Accommodation is not included in the registration fee and must be arranged separately. We recommend staying in or close to central Salerno, within convenient walking distance of the venue and railway station.

Location

Salerno is approximately 60 km from Naples. The city can be reached by train, bus or car and is connected to Naples and other destinations in Campania and Italy.

Airports

The two airports most relevant for participants are Naples Capodichino Airport and Salerno Costa d’Amalfi Airport.

Accommodation

Arranging your stay

Accommodation is not included in the registration fee. Participants should arrange accommodation independently.

Salerno offers a range of hotels, guesthouses and other accommodation options. We will publish a list of suggested accommodation options for participants soon.

Visas

Visa & invitation letters

Participants who require a visa to travel to Italy or the Schengen Area are responsible for checking the applicable entry requirements and applying for their visa in good time.

If you need an invitation letter in support of your visa application, you can contact the GIG-ARTS team to request one. Please make your request sufficiently in advance of your intended travel date, as visa procedures and processing times can vary.

Travel

Getting to Salerno

Salerno can be reached by air via Naples or Salerno Airport, and by train from Naples and other Italian cities.

Naples Airport → Naples Central Station

The Alibus shuttle connects Naples Capodichino Airport with Naples Central Station (Napoli Centrale). The journey takes approximately 15 minutes.

Naples Airport → Salerno by bus

Direct bus connections between Naples Capodichino Airport and Salerno are operated by SITA Sud.

Salerno Costa d’Amalfi Airport → Salerno

Salerno Costa d’Amalfi Airport is connected with central Salerno by the Salerno Airlink service operated by Busitalia.

Participants travelling via Naples can continue from Napoli Centrale to Salerno by train. Regular rail connections operate between the two cities.

Getting around Salerno

The central areas of Salerno are accessible by local bus, taxi and on foot.

Salerno provides the setting for the 2027 GIG-ARTS School. The city combines a compact urban centre with a historic core and a seafront, while also providing access to the wider Campania region.

Participants who wish to explore the region during or after the School can reach several significant cultural and archaeological sites from Salerno.
